Reopening a shellfish harvesting area closed to saxitoxin requires two | | consecutivetest results (7 days apart) with less than 80 micrograms of saxitoxin per 100 grams of | | shellfish tissue. A precautionary emergency closure will be used to close shellfish harvesting areas | | if rapid test results are positive for the presence of PSP toxin. | | NSP: Cell count refers to the total number of Karenia brevis red tide organisms counted by | | scientists per liter of seawater. Greater than 5,000 cells per liter causes a shellfish harvest area | | to close or remain closed. Mouse units: Information that results from tests run on shellfish. Samples| | testing less than 20 mouse units (<20 MU) are considered non-toxic. Samples testing 20 or more mouse | | units are considered toxic.
